Well known Boyanup horseman Dennis Roche has a record with graduates of the Australian Pacing Gold yearling sales that would make him the envy of most breeders.

“Four of the five horses that I’ve sold at the sales have won races and the other one was placed,” Roche, who conducts an agistment centre on his 40 acre property, said.

The winning quartet are Reinette, Bettagetonpip, Too Far Away Ted and El Jaydo.

Reinette was the second richest two-year-old filly in the country of her year, banking $187,406 from five wins and three seconds in 11 starts. Among her successes were the Group 1 $215,000 Westbred Classic and the Group 3 $50,000 Champagne Classic.

Bettagetonpip earned over $90,000 as a two-year-old, winning five of her 10 starts at that age including the Western Crown, while Too Far Away Ted won a two-year-old race at Gloucester Park and El Jaydo scored in open company at the Perth headquarters’ track recently.

“Last year I took two to the sales last year and I sold one - a Sweet Lou colt - for $90,000 to a client of Dylan Egerton-Green,” Roche said.

The former potato and avocado grower is preparing two superbly bred fillies for the 2026 APG Perth Yearling Sale at Magic Millions on Sunday, March 1.

Lot 302, a half-sister to Bettagetonpip, is by the champion sire Always B Miki from the Sportswriter mare Pippa Royale and thus carries a 3x3 cross to the great Artsplace.

“She’s a big, athletic filly. She’s the third foal of the dam but I lost her second foal,” Roche said.

The second half of Roche’s offering is Lot 386, a lovely Downbytheseaside filly from the Courage Under Fire mare Maddyann Maree.

“All the foals I’ve raced out of her have won,” Roche said. “Trigwell Road won six of his first 11 starts, Lamour Dottie has won eight, Just Like Shannon won four and Too Far Away Ted has won one.”

Roche has earned a solid reputation down through the years for presenting his draft in show ring condition.

“All my yearlings that go to the sale are put on the walker to help them develop muscle,” Roche said. “They are all fed the very best from day one.”
