Respected Wagin harness identity Kevin Spurr is a man who wears many hats.

He is the president of the Wagin Trotting Club and the WA Country Harness Racing Association, operates a large fertiliser spreading business and is the studmaster of the horse breeding farm Spurrs Stud.

On the weekends during the winter months, Spurr can be found calling the local Australian Rules football matches for radio.

Spurr, who has been involved in harness racing most of his life, mainly as a hobby, has stood a number of stallions including Bonavista Bay, Goodtime Sammy, Shoobees Place and P Forty Seven.

The Wagin studmaster is offering three youngsters at the Australian Pacing Gold Perth Yearling Sale at Magic Millions on Sunday, March 1 – two by Goodtime Sammy and one by Bonavista Bay.

Interestingly, two of the draft belong to top North American families.

The first of the Goodtime Sammy’s is Lot 357, a lovely bay filly out of Royal Anvil, who has left two sub 1:57 winners from only three foals of racing age.

“One of her foals, Shoo Boozy, won her first start at Gloucester Park punching the breeze in 1:56 as a two-year-old. She shows enormous talent,” Spurr said.

Royal Anvil’s first foal Regal Aura won eight races including three at Gloucester Park and $60,000 in stakes.

“We sold both of them at the APG yearling sales,” he said.

The Goodtime Sammy colt is a big, strapping fellow listed as Lot 415. He is out of the $200,000 winning Art Major mare C C Chevron NZ, winner of the 2015 SA Derby and a swag of races at Gloucester Park.

The colt belongs to the family which produced the North America Cup winner and highly influential sire Jate Lobell.

The last but certainly not the least of Spurr’s consignment is Lot 442, a smart looking filly by the WA Golden Nugget winner Bonavista Bay.

She’s a half-sister to the capable racemare Our Lady Jen, who totted up 11 wins including five at Gloucester Park and more than $120,000 in stakes and descends from the line which produced the A. G. Hunter Cup Winner Surprise Package.
